About
This particular brief was put forward as a completely open brief as far as creativity and artistic approach was concerned . The first part of the brief was to design two posters based on the word Cold. The approach did not need to be literal and there was a large scope to work within. Decisions whether to include typography, photography, illustration, mixed media were to be at the designers own discretion. Encouragement was given to push the boundaries of our skill set and to advance in new design practices. We would be asked to articulate our concepts in a way that supported good reasoning behind them. Also the posters should be sufficiently complex to show advanced skills in all areas of the design process including the final presentation by means of a single page website.
The single page website that makes up the second part of the brief should be built with careful consideration of the design principles and of course the content which is the two posters. As well as promoting the art work the website should also promote the designer on a personal level and the website will be designed created and published by the designer to form a link to a larger website that showcases a larger body of work from a variety of designers and should include a short bio, a portrait of yourself and a written piece about the finished works and the design process taken to achieve the final designs.
What was the brief and what I was asked to do.
Design strength and weakness evaluation.
I consider the strengths of the design were having a good understanding of the subjects life through thorough research, this was just as important as any of the design principles and allowed me to add subtle and personal touches to the collage designs. A weakness may be the lack of photographs of key moments in Mike Tyson’s life. Overall I feel there were more strengths gained through this brief than weaknesses realised. A weakness may be a lack of collage work experience and understanding of the process. This is something I would like to take forward and continue to develop as it was interesting and I found it to be enjoyable and rewarding.

I fulfilled the brief by following the design processed I have learned and developed throughout the course. Mind map / Research / Thumbnails / Concepts / Further thumbnails and more research based on my chosen concepts. The concept I chose was the of the sport of boxing which is often described as cold due to its violent nature and also the term knocked out cold or out cold associated with the sport. My research provided me with a variety of ways in which I could approach the design and I made the decision to create a collage depicting a champion of the sport. Further research into boxing uncovered champions of the world like Mohamed Ali and Joe Frazer, however it was Mike Tyson who was most fitting of the word cold due to his life story both in and out the boxing ring and for that reason my posters are of Mike Tyson’s life. I studied Andy Warhol , Zerounodesign and other collage artists. After some initial experimentation I decided the approach I could use was one similar to zerounodesign collage artist. I used a variety of sourced photography, textures , illustrations in Photoshop and arranged them on a grid in a fashion that I believe reveals to the viewer a sad, cold and violent portrait of Mike Tyson’s life.

About Me
My name is Mark Lynch graphic designer, Illustrator and photographer at Greencandled.com from the city of Glasgow, Sunny Scotland. I now live in the coastal and picturesque seaside town of Largs, North Ayrshire. I spend my time photographing local and far-flung landscapes and creating wall art in adobe illustrator and Photoshop. I strive to create or capture something out of the ordinary when possible and it is the search for new compositions and designs that keeps me motivated and energised. It always inspires me when a new client or customer acknowledges they were drawn to a unique aspect of my work. In my spare time away from the confines of my desk and computer I like nothing more than to head to the Scottish Highlands. Quite often I can be found hiking with my camera and tripod. I find great inspiration when climbing hills and witnessing the wonders of nature along the way and the exhilaration on reaching the summit of any Scottish hill or mountain.
